#1: Cool Down After A Workout

Regardless of the length or intensity of a workout, you still need to cool down afterward. The reason for a cool down is to reduce the effects of DOMS. DOMS stands for the Delayed Onset of Muscle Soreness, and it is what makes you stiff. Plus, you also need to repay the oxygen debt. Oxygen is in short supply during a workout, so the body burns other substances to keep you going. As a result, lactic acid occurs. To get rid of these ailments, you just need to go for a short jog and stretch. That should get the blood pumping back to your muscles so that they feel nimble and loose.

#2: Ingest Protein

The reason DOMS occurs is due to small, microscopic tears in your muscles. Before you can recover, you need to repair these tears. This is where protein comes in handy. Protein is a substance that induces muscle growth. So, the more you ingest, the healthier your muscles become. There is plenty of foods that are full of protein, and you need to find them. A good tip: mix a banana with a large glass of milk. It is like a smoothie that only contains protein.

#3: Drink An Energy Drink

Do you ever wonder why sports players drink energy drinks after a match? They do it because they need to replace important fluids that they lose during exercise. Your body will sweat out sugars and electrolytes, and they vital for your recovery. Obviously, you need to fill up your reserves by drinking an energy drink.  Plus, you can quench your thirst with energy drink so that you aren’t gasping for water! You will find that an isotonic beverage will keep your body going for longer.

#4: Leave Ample Time Between Workouts

Your most important friend is the time you leave between workouts. Sure, you can hit the gym four times a week. But, you shouldn’t do it four days in a row. Instead, you need to leave a day in between so that your body can rest. Otherwise, it will start to show signs of wear and tear. It doesn’t matter how young or fit you are because it affects everyone. If you don’t want to feel like you are dragging a lead weight, workout every other day.

Now that you know the tricks of the trade, you can maximize your regime for optimum results.
