If you are a bit of a novice when it comes to exercise, then there is so much information out there for you to follow. Where do you start to working out? The best advice is to get advice from a trainer or staff member at the gym. If you are planning to workout from home, though, what are your options? There are plenty of things that you could be doing wrong when you exercise. So here are a few of the things to watch out for. Then you can start your exercise regime with confidence.
Setting Unrealistic Goals
When people start working out, they can tend to set unrealistic goals. If you are aiming to lose 14 pounds in two weeks, then you are just setting yourself up to fail. You more than likely won’t achieve a goal like that. Then you get frustrated and give up. You need to set more realistic goals when you start working out. It is important to set goals; they just need to be ones that are achievable. So think about daily measures you could take, like drinking three liters of water a day. Or increasing the weight you are lifting or the distance that you are running. You will get to a weight loss or bulking goal eventually. You just need to set smaller goals along the way.
Using a plenty of Supplements
At the start of a workout plan, we can be full of determination and motivation. Quite often we will get ourselves a variety of new things. New gym clothes, water bottle, protein, and supplements. This is all very well if you know how to use them correctly. You don’t want to take all different kinds of supplements, as well as a protein shake if you don’t have to. You should avoid long-term use of this type of thing. It is better to focus on one of two supplements and then having a varied diet for your nutritional needs.
Not Writing Anything Down
It is easier to manage progress when things are written down. This goes for most things in life. If you don’t make a note of what you are eating, what you weigh or what training you are doing, you won’t see any progression. It is important to make a note of the weights and reps that you are doing, as well as times for running or cycling. Monitor whatever your preferred training style is.
Beginners never seem to make notes, but it is important that they do. It might be a good idea to take some before photos too. Then you can record how you are looking and how your body is changing. Changes aren’t always indicated on the scales when you are exercising. You could take some more photos every few weeks and monitor your progression. It works as extra motivation for you too. When you can see changes, you are inspired to carry on.
